ADD THE NETWORK NOTICE TO YOUR WINDOWS START-UP GROUP:

How to Set the NETWORK NOTICE to automatically pull up on Startup of your Computer

======================================================================

Rightmouse click on START button and select ‘Open’

Doubleclick on ‘Programs’ folder

Doubleclick on ‘Startup’ folder

NOTE:  The information below assumes that you already have drive Q: (or another assigned drive letter) mapped/connected to the Gen_Info drive on engrcdc of the Engineering network – if your computer has drive Q: mapped to something different or if you are not mapped/connected at all to the Engineering Gen_Info drive area, simply open My Computer or Windows Explorer and from the menu, select TOOLS/Map Network Drive, select an open drive letter from the dropdown, and in the ‘folder’ area type \\engrcdc\gen_info then click [FINISH] - this will connect/map you to the general information drive where the notice.txt file is located.  Then proceed with the instructions below.

With the Startup folder open, to begin to create the shortcut rightmouse click on white background and select ‘New,’ then ‘Shortcut’

[OR from the menu, select FILE/New/Shortcut]

The ‘Create Shortcut’ wizard begins….click [BROWSE] button

OPTION:  Instead of using [BROWSE], you can simply type on the line

                        Q:\Notice\notice.txt

You want to go to the Gen_Info drive (normally identified as Drive Q: on your PC.

Then, under the ‘Notice’ folder, click the file notice.txt

Click [OK]

<notice the path and filename appears in the wizard>

Click [NEXT]

Give your shortcut another name (EX:  'Network Notice' or you can leave the default filename)

Click [FINISH]

<the wizard ends, and you have now created your shortcut>

Close the window - You're finished!!

From this point on, every time you restart your PC and log in to the network, the network notice will open in Notepad, and you can read the tips or information we post and print, etc. – you would simply close the Notepad window once you’ve read the notice.

NOTE:  If you would want to delete the shortcut at anytime from the Startup folder, you can.  Simply follow the steps above to go to the Startup folder and highlight/select the shortcut, and touch DEL key on your keyboard (or right mouse click and select Delete)

If you lock your computer (rather than shutting down at the end of the day and restarting the next morning), the network notice will not change. If this applies to you, you have two options:

1. You can drag the shortcut to the network notice to your desktop and double click on the shortcut to update it.

2. You can drag the shortcut to the Quick Launch toolbar (lower right hand corner of your Windows Task Bar) and click on the icon to update the network notice rather than restarting your PC.
