ECS' Integrated Design Services has a long and stellar reputation of serving the design needs of clients from the College of Engineering, University community, industry, and government. Formed circa 1968, the faculty, staff, and students within the organization have a reputation of partnering with clients in the development of electronic hardware, mechanical, and software prototype system designs that solve contemporary and challenging engineering program needs. One of the key focus points of the organization is to mentor students aspiring to be engineers by providing them an opportunity for experiential learning opportunities by interacting with clients throughout our customer base. One of the key goals of the group is to be enablers in the College's goal of "Educating World Class Engineers".
The Integrated Design Services' faculty director and staff of research associate engineers and designers are dedicated to customer satisfaction and service. Each project undertaken by the organization is managed by a full time program manager and an appropriately configured team of collaborators that includes highly qualified and motivated students. The collective expertise of each project team insures client satisfaction by applying sound project management and design skills, regardless of the magnitude of a design challenge. Project development and completion is successfully achieved by our organization through our focus of three basic and sound principles:
IDS will provide students with the opportunity to engage in experiential engineering learning by working on practical projects; these projects originate from diverse sources such as COE and PSU researchers, corporations, and government laboratories. The staff will provide students with the tools, equipment, resources, and mentoring necessary for them to successfully complete projects in a team-oriented environment. This environment is meant to foster the development of students and compliment the scholarly focus of “Educating World Class Engineers”.
IDS must develop solutions that focus on the needs of clients and allow them to attain their project goals. This unit backs its work with a team of client-oriented staff and students that deliver prompt, courteous and comprehensive results. The organization takes pride in maintaining a diverse and knowledgeable staff consisting of individuals with strong creativity and sound technical proficiency. IDS must work to develop and sustain a reputation with each client for reliable engineering solutions.
The premises that IDS functions to compliment and contribute to “Educating World Class Engineers” are derived from the realization and practice of cross discipline collaboration, diversity, and engineering/social entrepreneurship. To succeed, everyone in the group must embrace and apply the principles embodied in these concepts.
On behalf of the Integrated Design Services' Director, Dr. Michael Pusateri, his staff and students, I thank you for taking a moment to visit our site and invite you to explore our pages to further investigate how our faculty, research associates, designers, and students may assist you in meeting the goals of your challenging research and system design projects.
Sincerely,

William J. Burkhard, Director, Electronic and Computer Services
